Botswana

vi
We arrived in Maun to be greeted by our safari people.  We had  flown Port Elizabeth to JBurg to maun. then on to a 12 seater Cessna. (there were four of us plus pilot and loader)
We landed on a "tarred" strip ,  and were met by Calvin who came from the near by village.  Calvin is our guide for our entire visiit. We drove over very bumpy roads of. rutted sand for 30 minutes
Our canp is called Leroo La Tau.
We were late arriving, had a quick cup of tea and joined Calvin and another couple from the UK.
We came across a mating pair of lions.  Lions mate comtinuously for about 7 days.  We watched the reluctant lioness and aggressive husband for some time, untill

they got tired ,perhaps of our scrutiny, and ambled down to the river for a drink.
This morning we followed their spoor and found them hard at it again, but they soon went off into the bush
Coming across the plain a black maned older lion, apparently the brother, walked towards us crossing the road exactly where we were parked.
The previous night many giraffes , larger than at Namibia, partly due to the better food supply. We had a coffee/tea break down by the hippos.  who as soon as we got near swam to the other side and snorted and cavorted.
There. were plenty of interesting birds,,,Malibu storks, wattled Herons, secretary bird who is an amazing snake killer.  The Secretary Bird will catch a large snake, fly up to a great height. ,drop it, repeating until the snake, sback breaks and then feast.
Rosemary took lots of bird photos with her zoom lens.

We came home at about 11 for brunch, we left at 7
